"I haven't bought clothes in years."

He admitted it, slightly embarrassed as Chu-e dug through a clothing rack. As someone who did most of the shopping, Howard had let him pick the store, let him walk in, and let him pick a random place to start digging for clothes. The former underboss had lost much of his attire when Sootopolis flooded, after all.

He was getting really tired of Chu-e borrowing his sweaters, as well. It was utterly ridiculous.

"Look at these prices. Ridiculous." Howard crossed his arms and sighed, before shaking his head. "You sure this is a good place?"

While Chu-e poked around, Howard's eye scanned the store, as if preparing to duck and hide if anyone he recognized appeared.

"I could tell." Is what Chu-e answers, ignoring howard slayte as he whines about the shopping. Chu-e picks through the clothing racks at lightning speed; a skill that even dying would never take from him.[break][break]

He lifts up a blue button up and holds it up to Howard's body, then makes a face and places it back. Chu-e's own clothes is borrowed. One of Howard's sweaters engulfing his small frame. It doesn't really suit him, making him look sicker somehow, but he does his best to make it work with an 'off the shoulder' look.[break][break]

"It's not that bad. The clothes are nice quality so they'll keep for longer." That was the trap of cheap clothes. You wore them once or twice before they wore thin or got ragged and you had to buy more. But you buy one nice shirt? You could keep wearing that shit for years if you took good care of it.[break][break]

Another one is lifted up to Howard's chest. Chu-e hums before nodding and draping it into the basket at his feet.[break][break]

"What's got you nervous, Gemstone? Afraid to be seen with me?" Is half joked.

Chu-e was right. A good shirt could last for eternity if it was properly preserved. Each time the admin found an old scrap of cloth at a dig site, he had to marvel at its survival over the course of millennia. Then, it'd end up in a museum or a thrift shop, depending on the quantity of surviving cloth.

Much of the admin's old wardrobe had been clothing from when his parents still cared and sent him things to wear. He paused slightly at the utterance of 'Gemstone'.

"It's because I'm being watched. I'm not worried about me. I'm worried about you." His eye flicked to Chu-e, before raising an eyebrow at the piece of clothing in the basket. Once, he had thought that he was good at covering his tracks. Dewford had humbled that. Petalburg had squashed it. "I don't want them going after you because you're crashing in my apartment."

As Howard spoke, he dug through another rack of clothes, trying to find something for Chu-e to wear.

"You still a fan of sweaters, or are you planning of spicing up your wardrobe? You have a good opportunity here, since you're starting from scratch."

"Worried? About me? That's sweet of you." He turns, pawing through a few racks of pants. A tongue is clicked with each one. "I already poisoned the guy trailing us." If anyone had anything to say about it, Chu-e could feign innocence. How was he to know it was Rocket doing it if they didn't tell him? Why wouldn't he do his part to protect an Admin.[break][break]

"I'm a snake. I'll slither out of whatever hole you might shove me in."[break][break]

Another shirt is picked out and held up to howard slayte.[break][break]

"I like them since they keep me warm." Howard would know by now how easily that Chu-e got cold.

Howard's hand slipped, and a shirt fell in a heap, its hanger still attached as he regarded his roommate.

"Seriously? You better not have killed them, Chu-e. I swear to Arceus, they were just doing their job." Chu-e protected the admin, but who protected the grunts? Who protected Chu-e? Occasionally Howard was reminded of Chu-e's callousness. This was the person who had birthed a god, though. It shouldn't have surprised the admin that Chu-e Choi was black hearted. "Tsk."

After several of their conversations, though, it made sense. Chu-e was a bad person. That didn't stop him from sleeping in Howard's room, though.

What a scoundrel.

"We'll get you a few sweaters, then." Howard conceded, before instinctively shuddering as early Christmas music came over the store's loudspeakers. "Seriously? It's only September."

"I wouldn't kill someone for that." Chu-e lies, aware both of them know it. "She'll just be trapped in the bathroom for a few days." The validity of his claims howard slayte would just have to trust. But if he were really a sheep heading to slaughter, what was one more body stacked against him?[break][break]

Chu-e picks through Howard's choices of sweaters, makes a face at one of them, seems interested in another, and ends up putting all except the 'disgusting' one back. His fingers pinch and grind the material between his index and forefinger a few times before it seems to pass whatever test he gives it and places it in the basket.[break][break]

Actually, most of the clothes get this silent test, even the ones that Chu-e is picking out for Howard.[break][break]

"Earlier every year. I hate how they used to fake snow here." And how it now snowed for real, thanks to the Ultra Wormholes. "If I wanted to get my socks wet from slush, I would go back to my hometown."

"You strike me as someone from Celestic Town, with how much you love myths and legends. Yet I've been there before. Your dialect doesn't add up."

Howard pondered, before shaking his head. Chu-e's dialect had been eroded by years and years of warring with Team Rocket. Maybe that was it. It wasn't someone from Veilstone, and it wasn't someone from Snowpoint. He had spent a hot minute in both of those locations, and Chu-e didn't seem like a local.

He'd think on it.

"This world is broken. It needs to be rebuilt. Snow falls in summer. It gets hot in winter. Parts of Mt. Chimney aren't even the right color anymore, and Granite Cave is just... gone." The admin prepared to yap some more, before realizing where he was. "Ha."

He started to chuckle, covering his face with one hand as he snickered.

"We're buying clothes and I'm talking about the fate of the world and dumping it all on you. It's so ridiculous."

His laughter quickly turned into something else. Tears.

"I'm so fucked up."
